The 2014 Bollig-Lehnert ‚Piesporter Goldtröpfchen‘ Riesling Spätlese is an excellent effort. The Bollig family has been producing wine since the 17th Century, and house their winery on the outskirts of Trittenheim. The wine starts with aromas of Pazzaz apple, Mandarin orange blossom, and crushed wet rock. There are bright flavors of Gala apple, Meyer lemon, blood orange rind, and blue slate. The Riesling has a gorgeous range of flavors and the minerality shows through. This is just an awesome value from Bollig-Lehnert. (Best 2016-2026) – April, 2016 (OB)

BOLLIG-LEHNERT Piesporter Goldtropfchen Riesling Spätlese 2012

The village of Piesport set on the north bank of the Mosel. At the foot of the Piesporter Goldtröpfchen vineyard in Piesport, a 4th-century AD Roman press house was discovered in 1985. The south facing Piesporter Goldtropchen vineyard has very steep slopes. The soil there is set on slate but has clay-like characteristics when wet. This Spatlase opens with lovely aromas of petrol, white wild flowers, Meyer lemon oil and ripe pear. There are flavors of orange marmalade, red delicious apple, Welches white grape juice and Key lime, alongside a long and lingering finish that coats the tongue. Impressive bottling here that has a refreshing edge, with nice density. The structure will make this one last well beyond a decade. (Best 2016-2028) – February, 2016 (OB)
